Contributing Guidelines
Why contribute?
Many activities invite you to passive learning (e.g. listening to talks and seminars, watching a YouTube video, going through a Coursera video course) but it is only when you actively practice a skill that you make mistakes, reflect on what you did, and try again.
Here in the EdTech Club, we provide the EdTech Club Lightning Talks as a way for you to practice your persuasive writing, presentation skills, and also share knowledge with our community.
We also help support you by cross-posting your generated content over LinkedIn and social media!
Ways to Contribute to the EdTech Club
You can participate in the EdTech Club by doing any of the following:
Visit talks, seminars, workshops, and meet-ups around the Bay Area- and then Share Your Learnings to the community.
Create a presentation about some insightful learning you had from past work experience- and then Share Your Learnings with the community.
How to Contribute as an L3 Speaker
Please make sure to follow each step of the contributor process:
Make sure that you have already joined the EdTech community.
Decide on what topics you want to share or talk about:
This can be a talk, seminar, workshop, or meet-up that you attended
This can be about your past work experience
Post a poll in the WhatsApp community group about the different topics you want to share with the EdTech Club members.
Decide:
Decide on the topic: What will you share with the community?
Decide on presentation method: Do you want it live or recorded?
Decide on privacy controls: Do you want to make it public (invite others to listen to your talk and give you feedback!) or private (select only a few people to listen!)?
Decide on presentation date: When will we host your lightning talk?
Inform Dianne via [email protected] about your decisions above.
Follow the L3 Preparation Guide to help you achieve a successful lightning talk!
Promote your lightning talk to the Hult Campus!
Option: Record your presentation
You may choose to record your presentation, if you feel like you don't have the time to schedule an in-person meeting.
Advantages
Avoid the problem of having to schedule your presentation to the availability of your audiences
Can watch and observe yourself present, allowing you to improve your presentation next time
Can reach a bigger audience (internationally) because you have your presentation recorded
Can connect with other Hult students across campuses
Can publish your video recorded presentation into LinkedIn, and into your social media sites for your personal branding.
Disadvantages
You don't get to practice live presentations, speaking, and persuasion.
You don't get to master your emotions presenting in front of a crowd.
You also don't get to practice your posture while presenting.
Recording Tools
You can use any of the following:
ScreenRec (simple, easy, free, no watermarks)
Loom (only 25 free video recordings on free subscription)
OBS (requires more technical knowledge)
