Big takeaways from Disciplined Entrepreneurship

  1. Customer centric approach

  2. Comprehensive planning; organized framework

  3. Iteration (MVP, validation, experimentation)

  4. Team, people, and culture; Growth from 0-1 (be strong) then 1-n (build your team) — you develop a long-term vision;

  5. It’s good to start a company and sell it within 5 years. It forces you to be more long-term.

3 traits on finding or building your team

  1. Driven (e.g. to help, enriches other people)

  2. Resourceful - to be able to do a lot with a little

  3. Exceptional ambition

Questions to reflect on during hiring

  1. Who are we hiring

  2. Why are we hiring

  3. Why are we hiring now?

  4. Why are they here- or why do they want to work with us

Traits on what to look for when considering coaching:

  1. Coachable

  2. Open to compromise, adaptability- be open-minded; be attached to customer’s problems rather than your idea

  3. Resilience

(notes might be inaccurate; i’m just writing down what I recall)

When is a good idea to be an entrepreneur?

  1. Why not do both? Address your concerns now (get a job; short-term problems, staying in US, VISA status, pay for your bills) and where will I be somewhere a few years down the line (side gigs, entreprenuerships)?

  2. What are the capabilities gap do I have to do entrepreneurship effectively?

  3. Green cards (in a year) that can be paid for by the company

Avoid relying solely on your entreprenuership without a job. Maintain your VISA status first; make your foundation strong.
